Welcome

BPS STRIVE Program

(Supported Training to Reach Independence through Vocational Experiences)
Resources and supports for unique learners transitioning from school to work and postsecondary options.

Wentworth Training Program Philosophy:

The Wentworth Training program provides transitional opportunities for Boston Public School students, ages 18-22, who receive special education services. This is a community-based vocational training program that leads to internships, externships, employment and postgraduate opportunities in the fields of Facilities Management, Hospitality, Customer Service, Business Management, and Public Works (recycling).

This is an authentic work experience. Students are given job titles, work IDs, evaluations, and pay raises. Our program sets high expectations for all learners, ensuring that our community-based partners receive the best of BPS.

As a professional contractor, we are accountable for results. Student tasks and evaluations are based not only on their personal growth, but also on their productivity in the contracted work. Student learning is maximized as students are able to set goals for their own learning and mastery of projects and skills.

History Of Wentworth Training Program:

Over the past 30 years, Director of Physical Plant Bob Ferro and his Staff have provided their unwavering commitment to over 5,600 Boston Public School students at the STRIVE Wentworth Training Program.

In 1988, the Wentworth Institute of Technology opened its campus to students with unique learning needs and provided opportunities for these individuals to practice, learn, earn, and gain authentic work experiences. This partnership continues to provide students with valuable vocational skills and to prepare them for competitive employment.

Inclusive Internships at Wentworth Institute Of Technology:

The following inclusive internships are supported by the Wentworth Institute of Technology and take place in multiple locations on the College campus.
